MARK

Keyword:  Jesus the Servant

Gospel written by John Mark, who travelled with Paul and Barnabbas and was the cousin of Barnabbas.  Shortest and simplest of the 4 accounts of the Gospel.  A crisp and fast moving account of the life of Christ.  Mark focuses on giving the events, and not many facts about each event.  Mark shows Jesus the Servant constantly on the move preaching, healing, teaching, and finally dying for sinful men.  Mark devotes the last part of the book (1/3) to great detail about the Passion.  Key Verse -- Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve.  Servanthood by giving.  His life a ransom for many.  Mark reproduces the preaching of Peter.  ACTION is the main characteristic of Mark.  Mark is believed to be the first of the Gospels written.  Jewish customs are carefully explained for Roman readers. Mark sought to demonstrate the deity of Christ.
